I am honored to have my string quartet\u00a0The Winding Path<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0premiered by the acclaimed\u00a0JACK Quartet<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0alongside the works of nine of my talented colleagues in the graduate composition program at\u00a0New York University Steinhardt<\/strong>. The concert is the culmination of a seminar led by the amazing composers\u00a0Julia Wolfe<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Missy Mazzoli<\/a>, in which we have explored modern string quartet repertoire and workshopped new compositions in live readings.\u00a0This performance is my New York City debut!<\/div>\n

The concert,\u00a0JACK x 10<\/strong>, will be held on\u00a0Tuesday, April 23, 7:00pm<\/strong>\u00a0at the historic\u00a0Provincetown Playhouse<\/strong>\u00a0in Greenwich Village (133 MacDougal Street,\u00a0New York, NY). Admission is\u00a0FREE<\/strong>\u00a0(no tickets needed) and open to the public.\u00a0View the event on Facebook<\/a>\u00a0to learn more about the venue and the program.<\/p>\n

The JACK Quartet\u00a0electrifies audiences worldwide with “explosive virtuosity” (The Boston Globe<\/em>)\u00a0and “viscerally exciting performances” (New York Times<\/em>) and\u00a0works with many of today’s leading composers.\u00a0Visit their website<\/a>\u00a0for more information about their numerous notable collaborations and performances.<\/div>\n

My piece\u00a0The Winding Path<\/em>\u00a0describes a circular journey, moving outward, striving towards a goal, a destination, or a state of being perhaps illusory or unreachable, and inevitably returning, transformed, to where it began. This is my second composition for string quartet, preceded in 2008 by\u00a0The Course of Empire<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0Audio and video recordings of the performance will be made available online.<\/div>\n
