This video and music piece inspired by a cross-country train trip, created for the NYU Contemporary Music Ensemble<\/strong>, was given an excellent\u00a0premiere performance\u00a0with video projection on April 28 in the Frederick Loewe Theatre at NYU. <\/a>Horizon: New York<\/em>\u00a0#1 & #2\u00a0– Dance &\u00a0Music Films Online<\/h3>\n

The audience at my April 29th recital saw the world premiere screening of version #1 of\u00a0Horizon: New York<\/em>, a short film I created featuring wonderful\u00a0dancer-choreographer Callie Lyons<\/strong> and cellist Fj\u00c3\u00b3la Evans<\/strong>. There are actually two versions of the video, shot in two different locations in Brooklyn (Brooklyn Bridge Park<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Prospect Park<\/a>), both of which are now available for viewing online.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Premiere of\u00a0Commissioned Work at\u00a0Boston GuitarFest<\/h3>\n

When guitarist\u00a0Devin Ulibarri<\/a>\u00a0–\u00a0who I previously collaborated with in 2011 on\u00a0Triptych<\/em><\/a>\u00a0–\u00a0asked me to write a piece for him and flutist\u00a0Alicia Mielke<\/a>\u00a0relating to\u00a0Boston GuitarFest<\/strong>‘s theme of “American Odyssey,”\u00a0I gravitated towards the woodblock prints and ink and watercolor paintings of the Japanese-American artist\u00a0Chiura Obata<\/strong>\u00a0(1885-1975).<\/p>\n

Devin and Alicia will premiere my Obata-inspired composition\u00a0Dai-Shizen\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>(Great Nature)<\/strong>\u00a0at the Emerging Artists concert on the 9th annual\u00a0Boston GuitarFest<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0Saturday, June 28 at 3:00pm in New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall<\/strong>.\u00a0Visit the Boston GuitarFest website to learn more about the concert.<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/a>The Coming of Spring<\/em>: Success<\/h3>\n

Thank you to everyone who came out to see my recital and the staged workshop production of one-act monodrama\u00a0The Coming of Spring<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0on April 29.\u00a0This was an extremely special evening for me and the audience response was very rewarding!<\/p>\n
