Nell Shaw Cohen, 2016.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nellshawcohen.com\/blog\/2016\/05\/nells-taos-residency-and-opera-performances\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Last year<\/a>\u00a0I spent\u00a0ten\u00a0weeks as Artist-in-Residence at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wurlitzerfoundation.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation<\/a>, which\u00a0supports artists\u00a0and the creative process by providing housing and studio space in the heart of\u00a0Taos, New Mexico. I&#8217;m delighted that\u00a0the foundation has invited me back for a second residency.<\/p>\n<p>I look forward to returning\u00a0and\u00a0continuing work on <em><a href=\"http:\/\/mabelscall.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mabel&#8217;s Call<\/a>:\u00a0<\/em>my\u00a0opera inspired by Mabel Dodge Luhan&#8217;s journey of self-reinvention in Taos during\u00a0the 1910&#8217;s and &#8217;20s. The Wurlitzer Foundation is located minutes away from Luhan&#8217;s historic home and all of the locales that were important to her life in Taos, and, consequently, my opera! It&#8217;s the perfect place to immerse myself in completing\u00a0this opera-in-progress, my largest work to date, which I began researching\u00a0about a year and a half ago.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Taos Mountain and the Rio Grande Gorge.
