It\u00a0was composed in response to the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail, which retraces the expansion of colonial Spain through California and Arizona.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 280px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/landscapemusic.org\/essays\/retracing-the-anza-trail\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/landscapemusic.org\/essays\/retracing-the-anza-trail\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/4cb5cb83e61e2ff4c679fc7f1\/images\/3c71931b-b901-4bd4-8c31-4e084d6c8151.jpg\" alt=\"Cemetery wall, Mission Santa Barbara.\" width=\"280\" height=\"186\" align=\"right\" data-file-id=\"5245737\" data-cke-saved-src=\"https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/4cb5cb83e61e2ff4c679fc7f1\/images\/3c71931b-b901-4bd4-8c31-4e084d6c8151.jpg\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cemetery wall, Mission Santa Barbara.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>To prepare for this project, I took a road trip this summer following the Anza Trail from Los Angeles to San Francisco, stopping at sites where the\u00a01775-76 Anza Expedition made camp.<\/p>\n<p><em>Retrace<\/em> will receive four co-World Premieres during Fall 2018 in venues around the country, see dates and locations below!<\/p>\n<p>Each of these concerts are part of\u00a0<strong><em>Landscape Music: Rivers &amp; Trails<\/em><\/strong>, a nationwide concert series I&#8217;m directing that features 11 World Premieres inspired by National Trails and Wild &amp; Scenic Rivers, all written by\u00a0members of my group:\u00a0the <strong>Landscape Music Composers Network<\/strong>.
