Duet (2009)

Flute and bassoon. 7 1/2 mins.

This set of three duets for flute and bassoon revolves around counterpoint, syncopated rhythms, and economy of material. I sought to weave a texture between these two opposing yet complementary voices that is conversational, playful, dynamic, and virtuosic.

Trees was originally scored for six-part flute choir, commissioned by the San Francisco State University Flute Choir, which premiered the first movement in 2009 as part of a program of music by American composers.
